Haven was established in late 2008 by Leslie Buckley, one of Ireland's leading entrepreneurs and businessmen. Our vision is to tackle poverty and improve the quality of life of impoverished people in Haiti. We aim to do this primarily by building new homes for the poor, improving other homes and introducing development programmes to help our beneficiaries work their way out of poverty.
A long time supporter of many charitable causes, Leslie is a founder of Digicel, the largest mobile phone telecommunications company in the Carribean. It was his work which brought him to Haiti for the first time, the poorest country in the Western World.
Conditions in Haiti are dire for the vast majority of its population of 8.5 million. Seven out of ten Haitians are living below the poverty line of $2 a day. One child dies every hour from starvation, with almost a quarter of children under five suffering from malnutrition. Unemployment stands at 54% and half of the population cannot read or write. And hundreds of thousands of people are condemned to live in shacks and slums.
Haven's vision for Haiti is one where every one of its citizens has a proper place to call home, where children have somewhere safe to sleep at night and families feel secure.

World’s youngest Mac app developer (12) is from County Cork!
An app created by a 12-year-old from Co Cork in Ireland – officially the world’s youngest Mac app developer – has passed major gaming titles Angry Birds and Call of Duty to become the top paid app on the Mac App Store today.
Twelve-year-old Harry Moran developed an app called PizzaBotthat went on sale on the Mac App Store for 79 cents.
“I’ve just consulted with Apple, and I’m officially the (world’s) youngest Mac developer now!” Harry told Siliconrepublic.com tonight.
Harry’s game, which was approved for the Mac App Store today, is now top of the action game and new game genres.
The game centres around an innocent slice of pizza that wakes up in a kitchen infested by salami and goes on a quest to free the kitchen of the meaty tyrants.
The game features 25 levels of “sauce shooting action” and is modelled on the traditional first-person shooter.
